Keeping optimism alive.
I worry that design may become too cynical. As I read through news headlines it would be negligent to deny the state chaos ingested on a daily basis. I think as problem solvers, we tend to gravitate towards things that we want to expose and visually create a solution for. After all, this is an important part of what we do. Climate change, politics, and potential nuclear warfare seem to dominate these headlines. Naturally, these are things we should try to resolve.
However, there is a lot of good in the world. It’s happening in little pockets all around us. All we have to do is look for it. I want to ask, what’s the last thought you had about your future? Were your scared, or were you optimistic? It could be both, and that’s okay. Make note of that.
I believe we are all inherently problem solvers, and I have confidence that we will have the capability to save ourselves from problems when they occur, regardless of how long the process may take. The key to not become overwhelmed with melancholy is to exercise patients and accept incremental progress. Keeping in mind the positive things, however big or small will push through negativity and keep the creative wheels turning. As much as it is our role to solve problems, it is also our duty to make the world a better place, and inspire the current world we live in. That will keep us going in the right direction, whatever direction that may be.
